Abstract:
This study explores the impact of polyester resin type, curing agent dosage, pigment and filler choices, and additives on the weathering performance and boiling water resistance of textured powder coatings for aluminum profiles.
Aluminum profiles, known for their excellent durability and lightweight, are widely used in the construction industry. The use of powder coatings on aluminum profiles has significantly increased, as they offer superior UV protection, scratch resistance, and color retention compared to anodizing and electrocoating methods.
Textured powder coatings are now widely used for aluminum profiles, offering better resistance to scratches and discoloration compared to leveling powder coatings, which are prone to damage during handling.

Polyester resin, curing agent, and additives were mixed, extruded, and pulverized into a powder with a particle size of 20-45μm. The powder was then used for electrostatic spraying on aluminum profiles.
Among the tested polyester resins, domestic resin B performed best in aging and boiling water resistance tests. It was selected for its superior weathering performance.
An optimal dosage of 14.5–15.5g per 200g of resin was found to achieve the best coating performance. Too little curing agent led to incomplete curing, while excessive amounts affected the texture.
The type and amount of barium sulfate affected the coating’s texture. Finer grades of barium sulfate created a stronger texture and better surface roughness.
Inorganic pigments were preferred for their better boiling water resistance, with brighter pigments showing greater color changes during testing.
The study successfully developed a weather-resistant textured powder coating suitable for aluminum profiles used in outdoor and architectural applications. By optimizing the resin type, curing agent, and fillers, the powder coating achieved excellent boiling water resistance, durability, and color retention, making it ideal for aluminum profile coatings.
